Our Local Schools: Briefs from Clark-Shawnee Local School District

Clark-Shawnee launches new website

A new and improved website design launched on Wednesday, Nov. 4, for the Clark-Shawnee Local School District.

The newly-redesigned website is part of the district’s ongoing commitment to providing the community with timely, accurate and important news about the district, schools and the students and staff of Clark-Shawnee.

The website, still located on the web at www.clark-shawnee.k12.oh.us will not only provide useful information about the district, schools, and upcoming events, but will also feature news and photos throughout the district to celebrate the successes and achievements of the district and its students throughout the year.

Sounds of the Season planned for Kuss Auditorium

For the first time this year, Shawnee High School’s annual Sounds of the Season program, featuring the Shawnee Choir and Orchestra, will be performed at the Kuss Auditorium at the Clark State Performing Arts Center.

The show will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Kuss Auditorium, 300 S. Fountain Ave.

Due to the popularity of the program in recent years, the larger performance space at Kuss will accommodate the larger audience. Tickets range in cost from $5 to $20 and can be purchased through the Kuss Auditorium Ticket Master.

Boosters host Black and Gold Dinner

Join the Shawnee Braves family for an evening of food, fun, and entertainment at the annual Black and Gold Dinner/Auction, beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14.

The event will be held at the Eagles Aerie on Selma Road. The silent auction begins at 5 p.m. with dinner by Rudy’s BBQ and entertainment at 6 p.m., followed by the live auction at 7 p.m. The DJ and dancing starts at 9:30 p.m.

All proceeds will benefit Shawnee Athletic programs, new uniforms, permanent improvements and lots of other support for our student athletes.

Tickets are $25 and include dinner, door prizes, entertainment and dancing. Tickets can be purchased from Athletic Director Steve Tincher, or at the fall sports awards night on Monday, Nov. 9. Come support our student athletes with a night of fun.

WSHS Studios features daily Shawnee announcements online

The announcements for Shawnee High School – produced daily by students in the videography class offered with teacher Brigitte Williams – are now available to watch on YouTube.

Shawnee students produce these creative announcements each day, sharing not only information pertinent to the staff and students but also information of interest to the general community and parents and highlights of events and activities happening in the school.

The finished products are primarily student-driven, with guidance and initial training from Williams. Students prep, film, edit and upload the daily announcement videos and even volunteer time after school to film activities and events.

“I have had students who are shy that really ‘shine’ after learning how to be a student anchor,” said Williams. “I have had some that are natural speakers, but work on filming and editing skills. In the end, I have a great deal of talent that only gets better with practice.”

Catch up on all the latest news and see the impressive work the videography students are producing each day by visiting the district website at www.clark-shawnee.k12.oh.us and look in the latest news or the Shawnee High School page to find the YouTube Channel for WSHS Studios.
