An Aryan Nation uniform found in an upstairs bedroom and a cardboard box filled with white supremacist materials were among items collected in the search that began Friday evening and ran into the early morning hours Saturday, according to authorities.
Manis’ accuser, who is the mother of a 5-month-old child and by her own admission has past convictions for solicitation and a struggle with drugs, has recounted a 10-day ordeal for police and the media.
However, Manis — charged with 18 counts of rape and one count of kidnapping — isn’t talking, said Hamilton police Chief Neil Ferdelman.
“We have gotten no statement from him,” Ferdelman said,.
The woman told detectives that Manis bound her hands and feet and locked her inside a closet, nailing it shut.
Taken as evidence from an upstairs closet were two bags of women’s clothing, white rope, women’s boots, a comforter, pillow and blood-stained carpet, according to authorities.
Ferdelman said Manis’ apparent tie to the Aryan Nation may have no bearing on the rape case, but “we have to look at everything we might need to make a case.”
The chief said the FBI has been notified of Manis’ arrest because the agency is interested in his Aryan Nation involvement.
“This is a very violent crime, scary crime,” said Ferdelman, adding he’s heard reports that Manis may have kidnapped others who did not report it. “Of course we will be investigating that, too,” he said.
Manis, who is being held on $200,000 bond in the Butler County Jail, has a preliminary hearing Friday in Hamilton Municipal Court.
