Pierce, 37, was dragged more than 200 feet and died, Finfrock said.
“I just ask that they have a conscience and come forward and say they hit him,” Finfrock said. “I just want to know what happened to my son.”
Authorities had not arrested anyone late Thursday.
But Thursday morning, Maine’s Towing and Recovery Service towed a dark gray Honda Accord from a parking lot near the intersection of Columbia Street and Fisher Street.
A report on police scanners said the tow was connected to the hit-skip case, but troopers did not confirm that report.
Officials collected surveillance video and physical evidence from the scene and are still interviewing witnesses, said Ohio Highway Patrol Lt. Robin Schmutz Anyone with information should call (937) 323-9781, she said.
Witnesses said Pierce played pool at Wayside for about a half hour and was struck moments after he left.
Finfrock walked to the scene after her son saw a news report that a man at the bar had been struck and killed. When police showed her Pierce’s pay stub, she knew immediately her son was dead.
Authorities told her Pierce suffered a fractured skull and died before they arrived, she said.
Pierce went to Wayside on Wednesday to play pool and to “clear his head” after a stressful week, Finfrock said.
She said Pierce was supposed to call her when he was ready to leave. But he walked home instead.
He was wearing blue jeans, a black T-shirt and a gray, black and white plaid jacket, she said.
“Maybe it was an accident. Maybe they didn’t see him. But at least stop,” Finfrock said. “How can they sleep? They’ve got to have a conscience ... If I hit a dog I would stop. This person couldn’t even stop and take the time to check on him.”
On Thursday, Finfrock sat in her kitchen with her oldest son, Gary, and recalled her youngest son as a math whiz, a cook at Rudy’s Smokehouse and a great father to his 2-year-old daughter, Olivia.
She also recalled that he was born two months early, weighing just over three pounds.
“The little fellow had to fight his way to live and then somebody just snuffed him, just took him out,” Finfrock said.
“Whoever did this may as well have put a gun to their head, too, because they murdered my son.”
