Boehners buy vacation home

Speaker of the House John Boehner purchased a $835,000 beach-front vacation home in the high-end condominium complex Tampico in Cape Marco, Fla.

The purchase was made on Feb. 11 and Boehner and his wife took out a $650,000 mortgage, according to records filed with the Clerk of the Circuit Court in Clollier County, Fla. This area of Florida has been the Boehner’s go-to vacation area.

“This area of Florida has been the Boehners’ family vacation spot for many years, and rather than continue to put money into vacation rentals year after year, they decided to buy a condo,” said Kara Hauck, spokeswoman for the 12-term congressman. “Their home is in West Chester, Ohio, and will continue to be.”

This purchase is not a sign that the speaker is winding down. In an exclusive interview with the Journal-News last week, Boehner said “the fire is still in the belly” to represent Ohio’s 8th Congressional District, which includes Butler, Preble, Clark, Miami and Darke counties, and part of Mercer county.

Many congressional leaders, as well as rank-and-file members, own vacation homes. House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi, D-California, has a vacation home in Napa Valley, Calif., Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, has vacation homes in Arizona and California, and former Senator and current Secretary of State John Kerry has vacation homes in Massachuesetts and Idaho.
