The honorees included Clark County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Joe Johnson, Trooper Tim Durham of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Springfield Police Detective Joshua Haytas, and Springfield Fire Division Lt. Felix Shanahan.
The awards were presented by Springfield Fire Division Chief Brian Miller. He said one reason these members of law enforcement were awarded was for their “overlapping core values - service, fellowship, diversity, integrity and leadership.”
Johnson, nominated by Sheriff Deb Burchett, was recognized as what it takes to be the best and knowing his community. “I love serving the community, helping the city,” he said.
Durham, nominated by Lt. Brian Aller, was recognized for his professional ethics, integrity and representing the OSHP in a positive manner. He was also named Trooper of the Year in 2005, 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2020. “I never dreamed I’d have five of these sitting at home ... It’s nice to be recognized and supported,” he said.
Haytas, nominated by Police Chief Lee Graf, was recognized for his top investigator skills and setting an example.
Shanahan, nominated by Fire Chief Brian Miller, was recognized for his positive energy and excellent examples of service.
