The Alzheimer’s Association Miami Valley Chapter will be holding two volunteer training sessions this week in Springfield.

At the training sessions, individuals interested in volunteering with the non-profit can learn which roles need filling.

Rebecca Hall, director of care and support for the Alzheimer’s Association Miami Valley Chapter,  said volunteers are needed in all nine counties in the Miami Valley, but the chapter is looking to expand its reach into Clark, Greene, Darke and Champaign counties.

“We want to make sure that families affected by Alzhemier’s and dementia in these counties have access to our care and support services,” Hall said.

Hall said volunteers are needed in communities like Clark and Champaign counties in order to make sure more residents are “engaged.”

“Volunteers are key to helping us reach more people by creating awareness and educating the community,” Hall said. “We’d love to have more volunteers from these counties engage with our mission and help bring our services to their communities.”

During the last fiscal year, program volunteers contributed 1,807 hours of service to the chapter, helping to deliver Alzheimer’s Association care and support to programs in the Miami Valley community, a statement from the chapter said.

“Our volunteer opportunities are very flexible. For example, we are always looking for community educators to speak to groups and create awareness, and these volunteers can choose how many hours they’d like to volunteer with us based on their schedules,” Hall said. “There are daytime and evening opportunities.”

Hall said the chapter has a wide variety of volunteer options and coming to one of the training sessions is a great way to find out what opportunities might be available.

“We’re looking for volunteers who are passionate about spreading awareness and educating the community about Alzheimer’s and dementia,” Hall said. “Community educators should be comfortable speaking in front of groups, but there are other opportunities as well. Coming to our open house is a great way to find out what opportunities may be right for each individual.”

Those interested in volunteering should plan to attend one of two training sessions, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. or 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at United Senior Services, located at 125 W. Main St. in Springfield.
