The West Liberty castle is one of a pair located in Logan County called the Piatt Castles. Built by brothers Donn and Abram Piatt, the 19th-century homes have been open as museums for more than a century.
Visitors can hunt for eggs and take part in an Easter egg roll on the grounds of the castle, a 25-room chateau surrounded by oak, elm, locust and walnut trees.
Creating Easter cards from “The American Girls and Boys Handy Books,” published in the 1880s, will take place inside the historic structure, as well as activities that share holiday customs and spring-time stories.
A basket toss game from Germany and an Irish rhyming game will also be part of the fun.
The program is 90 minutes long and admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-15. Tickets are available at the event or reservations can be made at piattcastles.org or by calling (937) 844-3902.
In addition to the fun of celebrating Easter in this historical setting, visitors can see the castle a week before it opens to the public.
Regular tours of both Piatt Castles, Mac-A- Chee and Mac-A-Cheek, begin Saturday, April 20.
The castles are open on weekends only from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through May 20. On Memorial Day weekend, the Castles are open all week long from 11 a.m – 5 p.m., through Labor Day. The weekend schedule returns after Labor Day weekend and continues through October 28.
