Dayton still tied for first after VCU wins controversial game

Technical foul helps Rams escape upset at St. Bonaventure

VCU beat St. Bonaventure 83-77 in overtime. The Bonnies appeared to win the game in regulation on a 3-pointer by Matt Mobley with 0.5 seconds remaining. Fans rushed the court, thinking time had expired. Officials ruled there was still time on the clock. Because VCU wasn’t able to in-bound the ball, they assessed a technical foul on the Bonnies.

JeQuan Lewis made a technical free throw with no time on the clock to tie the game at 66-66.

After the game, the Atlantic 10 released a statement about the call: “The decision to assess a one-shot technical foul for the delay of game at the end of the VCU-St. Bonaventure game was a correct call. The conference office has reviewed the end of the game, and spoken to the Atlantic 10 Coordinator of Officiating, who verified that it was in fact the correct call.”
