Tim Sheerin grew up in Springfield, trained as an auto mechanic at the vocational school and landed his first job as a service writer while he was still in high school. He never really left the area, never worked as a mechanic, and with more than 40 years in the car business, he’s back as the general manager of Springfield Buick-GMC-Cadillac.
“The Kenwood Dealer Group bought this dealership in August of 2018,” Sheerin said. “Frankly, it had fallen on hard times, yet its legacy is that it was once Foreman Pontiac. Jim Foreman was not only a car dealer, he was a community leader and ran a business with integrity.
“I’d know him for years with my other dealerships in town; we were competitors but also friends. New owner Bob Reichert of Kenwood Dealer Group approached me to manage this new purchase because of my history with Foreman,” he explained.
Sheerin, 63, has worked in virtually every department at an auto dealership in his career, with the exception of accounting, and has also owned three dealerships in Clark County.
“Pretty much, we’re going to bring back that hometown feel and service, but with big-time support and inventory. You’ll be dealing with people you know from the area, both young and older, people with experience,” he said.
The dealership employs 28 people full-time and a handful of part-timers.
The previous owners had closed the used car lot and combined everything into the new car showroom, creating the impression that that part of the business was closed. With Sheerin in place, the used car lot is back open and the inventory has expanded.
“I’ve got over 100 used cars on hand, and that includes all makes and models, not just Buicks, Cadillac and GMC, he said. “Plus today, we have exactly 135 new cars and trucks on the lot. But the real beauty is our relationship with the Kenwood Dealer group. They own 14 other dealerships and have anywhere from 1,400 to 1,600 cars on hand every day, and we can access all of those too.
“You can go the website, www.cincyautos.com, find a car you like and we can have it here in a few hours, “ Sheerin explained. “And there’s no commitment required. If you don’t like it, that’s OK, we’ll look for others.”
The Kenwood Dealer Group sold more than 28,000 cars in 2018. Their flagship location is the Kings Auto Mall and they also own Interstate Ford and Lebanon Ford.
“This is an exciting time – new Buicks are attracting a much younger audience, GMC trucks are no longer just work trucks, and Cadillac has incredible technology. We’re making all of that available to our customers, while we also reach out to the community as a partner to support the local arts council and other groups. We’re in for the long haul,” Sheerin added.
