I found this Koup to offer a pleasant driving experience, with excellent handling and surprising back seat space.
On looks alone, the Forte Koup sets itself apart.
My tester was the SX trim which is the high-end model. It comes at a higher price, but is worth it, considering you get a compact car that has sporty looks, chrome finishes and a sport-tuned suspension.
The 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine produces a sufficient 173 horsepower. The Forte is not a jackrabbit off the line, but moves fast enough in all other conditions.
The 6-speed automatic transmission is a nice upgrade over the previous 5-speed transmission, which felt indecisive and stuttered on occasion. The SX model boasts a sport-tuned suspension, which helps make cornering fun and adds enjoyment to the driving experience.
Inside, beautiful red stitching highlights the black leather seats and the red accents can be found consistently in the background lighting of the instrument panel as well as the floor mats. This attention to detail has helped propel Kia’s overall sales and reputation toward the top.
Push-button start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and power sunroof were pleasant aesthetics as well.
There is an emphasis on fuel efficiency, too. An ECO mode helps to keep you driving conservatively. As a result, the Forte gave me nearly 28 MPG in my two weeks of driving. Its EPA estimates are 23 city and 31 highway. Paying closer attention to the ECO mode can yield that higher number, easily.
The Forte Koup starts at $19,395, which is a little on the higher end for a compact car. Add in the SX technology package and my tester was $23,640. Again, a little pricey for a smaller car, but considering you get something that is not your run-of-the-mill compact coupe, it’s easier to justify.
