Hidy family adds Acura to its franchise

The Hidy family of auto dealerships is moving into the luxury zone by adding another brand to its franchise.

Acura of Dayton is now under the Hidy umbrella and will be named Hidy Acura. Acura is the luxury vehicle division of Japanese automaker Honda Motor Co.

“We’ve been expanding our car business,” said Joe Hidy, owner and dealership principal at Hidy. “We’ve always had Honda here and were lacking a luxury or upscale market brand and that’s where Acura comes in. It’s an off-shoot or subdivision of Honda, and we are impressed with Acura, so it all worked out.”

Hidy Acura, located at 60 Loop Road, Centerville, has been Acura of Dayton for the past seven years at that location. The owner was looking to sell so Hidy purchased the assets and facility.

Hidy Acura offers both new and pre-owned Acuras, a finance department and a service and parts department. The facility and parking lot is small, though, so Hidy also purchased the lot at the corner of Far Hills Avenue and Loop Road.

“We bought the adjacent lot to it,” Hidy said. “It used to be Bob Ross Used Cars. It has about 1.5 acres, and this acquisition solves all of our space problems.”

Don Arnett, who has been a general manager at Hidy and in the automotive sales business for more than 20 years, will serve as the general manager at Acura.

“This is a great opportunity for all of us,” Arnett said. “We have the quality and reliability of the Honda brand, but wanted to graduate up to a luxury car with Acura. Acura is the luxury division of Honda. We used to have one in Columbus, so we know the product.”

Hidy retained most of the service technicians and several other employees. A new service manager, parts manager and some sales employees have been hired.

“I’m real excited about the sales team,” Hidy said. “They are like a ‘Dream Team.’ It’s a great opportunity for them and for us. We do a real good job here of taking care of our customers and we want that to carry over to Acura. We want to increase the volume, and we expect to sell about 500 new Acuras a year.”

There are 22 employees at Hidy Acura, including one other employee from the Hidy sales team that made the switch.

Hidy Acura’s sales department is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Soon it will be open from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Hidy also sells, from its location on Heller Drive in Beavercreek, new and pre-owned Fords, Hondas and Hyundais. Sales hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
