10 things that happened at The Greene in Beavercreek in 2017

It was another busy year of changes for The Greene Town Center, one of the region’s largest shopping centers.

The shopping center, a mixed-use development in Beavercreek, has been a staple in the Dayton region for more than 10 years. Owned by Olshan Properties, the shopping center continued to innovate with new shopping concepts like a pop-up shop program in 2017. The Greene also saw several store closures and openings this year.

Check out some of the top stories about The Greene in 2017:

1.The Greene is trying a new pop-up shop concept, which means plenty of new stores are coming.

“The gist of the program is that someone will be able to utilize a finished out space that is already fully fixtured for a week at a time. I think that the thing that is really appealing about this is that the businesses will only be required to pay us a small fee for each day they are actually open for business not all the days of occupancy. This has been very appealing so far. There are no other fees involved to operate in the space,” Willshaw told this news organization in an email.READ MORE

2. A new puzzle store has opened — and they have games for all ages.

Puzzle Plus, a family-owned puzzle store, sells jigsaws, brain teasers, puzzle books and games. The store carries games and puzzles for all ages and skill levels. The puzzle store opened in 1995 in Beavercreek, but just moved to a new location at The Greene at 4465 Glengarry Drive.READ MORE

3. A new taco restaurant is opening in the former Crazy Mango location 

One of The Greene’s newest and most visible vacant retail spaces will be filled by a Texas-based Mexican restaurant chain making its debut in the Dayton area. Olshan Properties announced that Fuzzy’s Taco Shop has signed a leased at The Greene Town Center.

4.A candy shop opened — and it has a ton of cotton candy flavors.

5. A new shoe store opened at The Greene.

JaeLuxe Shoetique has started renovating its 1,500-square-feet retail space on Magnolia Lane next to the Pandora store. Owner April Polk said the store sells shoes and other items for women. READ MORE

6. Ann Taylor closes at The Greene

Women’s clothing retailer Ann Taylor at The Greene in Beavercreek closed its doors at the end of January 2017. The retailer is offered 60 percent off all clearance items. READ MORE

7. 2 retailers get upgrades at The Greene in Beavercreek

Jake’s Toggery moved to a new location at The Greene, replacing its existing location in Phase II of the mall near Von Maur. The new Jake’s Toggery store is now located between the Apple Store and Bath & Body Works. The store will be Jake’s latest store design, replacing what had been an existing retrofitted storefront of its previous “Life is Good” brand. READ MORE

A new restaurant serving grilled chicken and other healthy dishes opened at The Greene Town Center in Beavercreek in May.

9. Home decor store opens at The Greene 

Griffin & Co., a home decor and gift shop, opened its new location at The Greene Town Center in Beavercreek in May. The store, which was previously located in the Town & Country Shopping Center since August 2014, is located at 4392 Holly Drive. That space was occupied by The Limited clothing store before it closed in December 2016. READ MORE

10. Starbucks to close all 379 Teavana locations, including local stores

The coffee giant announced the company’s principally mall-based Teavana retail stores have been “persistently underperforming,” according to a company statement. Following a “strategic review of the Teavana store business,” the company concluded the underperformance was likely to continue. Teavana has stores at The Greene Town Center in Beavercreek and the Kenwood Towne Center in Cincinnati, according to the company website. READ MORE
