Facebook honors 50th anniversary of Star Trek

You may have noticed a “Like-able” change in the Facebook interface. Facebook has temporarily changed its Like buttons to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Star Trek.

The new buttons include the Vulcan Salute, Captain Kirk (Haha), Spock(Wow), Geordi La Forge ((Sad), and a Klingon (Angry). The buttons are available for “some Star Trek fans in the U.S. and Canada,” according to Facebook reps. In order for it to change for you, you must Like the official Star Trek Facebook page.

Facebook experimented with their Like buttons earlier this year, as they added a flower button in honor of Mother’s Day. No word yet as to how long these buttons will be available.

If you do not see the Like change, you also have the option of adding a Star Trek profile frame to your profile picture. This is a great way to tell your friends to “Live long and prosper.”
