Barbie's newest career: Computer Engineer

Computer Engineer Barbie will be hitting store shelves just in time for the 2010 holiday season.

Mattel has announced its latest doll will boast a pink laptop, binary shirt, Bluetooth headset and smartphone.

The idea, according to the company, is to “validate our highly tech-reliant society while teaching your children that using lap tops and cell phones is not just OK, but cool.”

Talk about career changes: this will be the famous doll’s 126th occupation in her 50 year history. This time, people were allowed to vote via an online poll with choices that included architect, environmentalist, news anchor and surgeon.

Mattel chose Barbie’s accessories — including her laptop travel bag — with the help of the Society of Women Engineers and the National Academy of Engineering. The new doll was unveiled New York’s American International Toy Fair this week. She’ll make her debut with a $12.99 price tag.
