Tragedy struck Wittenberg University’s athletics program again last week when Kevin Karn, who was scheduled to begin a soccer career with the Tigers in August, died in a car accident.

Karn, 18, was killed in a single-vehicle accident at 10:30 p.m. Thursday in Amanda Township, Ohio, south of his hometown, Canal Winchester, according to the Lancaster Eagle Gazette.

“Once a Tiger, always a Tiger is something we talk about here at Wittenberg and is no more true than in the case of Kevin,” Wittenberg Athletic Director Gary Williams said Sunday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Karn family as well as our own Tiger family who Kevin already made an impact with.”

WCMH, in Columbus, reported investigators said alcohol was believed to be a factor and Karn was not wearing a seat belt.

Karn graduated from Canal Winchester High School in May. There will be a visitation for him on Monday, according to his obituary, and he will be laid to rest Tuesday.

A Wittenberg football player, Miles Laboy, died June 28, a day after a crash on Interstate 75. Three other Wittenberg football players were injured in the accident.
