Springfield’s Eaton finds a new team two days after being released by White Sox

Eaton, 32, joins a team that is in fourth place in the American League West Division. The Angels finished the first half with a 45-44 record. They’re nine games back of the first-place Houston Astros and 5½ games out in the wild-card race.

In his second stint with the White Sox, Eaton got off to a strong start in the opening weeks of the season but saw his batting average dip below .200 in May. He went on the injured list in June with a strained right hamstring and did not play between June 14 and July 2. He hit .201 with five home runs and 28 RBIs in 58 games.

The White Sox designated Eaton for assignment on July 7 and released him Monday.

The Angels will be Eaton’s fourth big-league team. He debuted with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2012 and played two seasons before being traded to the White Sox. After three seasons with the White Sox, he was traded to the Nationals after the 2016 season and played four seasons in Washington, winning a World Series championship in 2019.
