HS Roundup 2/14: Shropshire leads Emmanuel Christian to MBC title

Emmanuel Christian won the program’s first Metro Buckeye Conference title with a 57-47 win against Troy Christian in boys basketball action on Friday night.

Fred Shropshire scored 22 points, Casey Swank added 13 and Jason Channels 12 to lead Emmanuel Christian.

It was the 18th win in a row for Emmanuel Christian, which wrapped up the regular season with a 19-2 overall record and 13-1 mark in league play.

Troy Christian dropped to 17-5 and 12-2.

Boys Basketball

Badin 58, Alter 52: Zach Switzer finished with 21 points, Josh Hegemann 17 and Donovan Watkins 12 to help Badin pull off the upset. Watkins scored 10 of his 12 points in the final quarter to spur Badin’s rally. Conor Stolly paced Alter with 14 points and Rich Kolb added 11.

Bethel 54, Tri-Village 46: Casey Keesee chipped in 15 points, Nick Schmidt 13 and Ethan Rimkus and Trevor Walker 10 apiece for Bethel. Walker and Schmidt also hauled in 10 rebounds each.

Brookville 53, Valley View 52: A.J. Eller dropped in 22 points to lead the way for Brookville.

Centerville 60, Beavercreek 47: Gabe Cupps totaled 21 points to help Centerville claim the Greater Western Ohio Conference American division title outright. Tom House tacked on 15 points.

Chaminade Julienne 41, Purcell Marian 37: Larry Turner paced Chaminade Julienne with 14 points.

Fenwick 57, Roger Bacon 31: A.J. Braun had a double-double performance of 18 points with 16 rebounds to pace Fenwick. Braun also had four steals and three blocks.

Fort Loramie 52, Botkins 34: Damon Mescher paved the way for Fort Loramie with 14 points. Jayden Priddy paced Botkins with 15 points.

Franklin 73, Oakwood 71: Franklin rallied from a double-digit deficit to win the Southwestern Buckeye League Southwestern division title outright.

Greeneview 63, Southeastern 47: Rhett Burtch scored 24 points, Gabe Caudill 16, Cole Allen 13 and Greeneview won the Ohio Heritage Conference title outright.

Hamilton 55, Oak Hills 43: Trey Robinson exploded for 27 points and Hamilton went on a 24-16 run in the final quarter to earn the win. Ke’von Burnett added 11 points and Jackson Lewis 10.

Houston 53, Russia 52: Brennan Arnold paced Houston with 22 points. Mason Dapore led Russia with 24 points.

Jefferson Township 71, Yellow Springs 43: Janson Kincer led Jefferson with 18 points, Kendall Jones added 16 and D’Shawn Ferguson had 14 points with 10 rebounds.

Lakota East 64, Lakota West 57: Nate Johnson poured in 28 points and Kaden Fuhrmann added 16 for Lakota East, which finished the regular season at 20-2 overall and 15-1 in the Greater Miami Conference. Julian Mackey had 25 points in a losing effort for Lakota West.

Lehman Catholic 60, Waynesfield-Goshen 41: Luke Frantz and Brendan O’Leary combined for 50 points, 31 from Frantz, to lead Lehman Catholic.

Mason 75, Fairfield 58: Merlin Pope chalked up 11 points with eight rebounds in the loss for Fairfield.

Mechanicsburg 46, Northeastern 40: Jake Edwards paced ‘Burg with 18 points and Mack DeLong tacked on 10. Cole Allen tallied 17 points for Northeastern.

Miami East 34, Mississinawa Valley 33: Brendon Bertsch scored 13 points to lead Miami East. Blake Scholl had 14 points for Mississinawa Valley.

Middletown 59, Princeton 53: Johrdon Mumford totaled 18 points and Rob Thompson 16 to pace Middletown.

Miamisburg 56, Fairmont 45: Alex Ball put up 22 points, Anthony Coppock added 12 and ‘Burg finished the game on a 12-point swing to secure the win.

Milton-Union 75, Dixie 58: Blake Brumbaugh recorded 20 points with five rebounds and five assists to lead Milton-Union. Sam Case added 17 points and Brandon Lavy 13.

Minster 55, St. Henry 49: Justin Nixon totaled 15 points, Jacob Salazar 13 and Minster went on a 16-8 run in the third quarter to take control.

National Trail 59, Franklin Monroe 48: Cameron Harrison had 17 points, Wyatt House 11 and Tyler Weathington 10 to help National Trail finish the season with a 12-0 record in the Cross County Conference.

New Bremen 43, Fort Recovery 39: Nolan Bornhorst recorded 18 points to lead New Bremen. Grant Knapke and Brian Bihn each had 11 points for Fort Recovery.

New Miami 68, St. Bernard 48: Trey Robinette totaled 21 points, Jordan Robinette added 19 and Deanza Duncan 11 for New Miami.

Parkway 50, New Knoxville 38: Carson Bierlein tallied 18 points in the loss for New Knoxville.

Piqua 51, Troy 38: Garrett Schrubb chipped in 18 points and Dre’Sean Roberts 15 for Piqua.

Preble Shawnee 72, Northridge 65: Sam Agee and Bryce Singleton combined for 43 points to spur Preble Shawnee. Darryl Story Jr. tallied 14 points and Jamel Crusoe 12 for Northridge.

Ross 65, Talawanda 62, OT: Cole Gronas carried Ross with 18 points and Joe Schottelkotte added 17.

Sidney 56, Greenville 42: Jaden Swiger scored 12 points off the bench, Dominick Durr added 11 and Sidney won the Miami Valley League Valley division title outright.

Stebbins 65, West Carrollton 63: Stebbins scored the go-ahead layup with 11 seconds to play, blocking West Carrollton from a Miami Valley League Valley division title.

Springboro 66, Lebanon 62, OT: Noah Moser poured in 27 points for ‘Boro and Kahleel Trent added 17. Nick Pierett and Blake Lamb led Lebanon with 16 points apiece.

Springfield Shawnee 70, Kenton Ridge 55: Isaac Simeon poured in 33 points to lead Springfield Shawnee.

Tippecanoe 61, Butler 52: Ben Knostman led four players in double-digit scoring for Tippecanoe with 17 points. Thomas Skaggs and Nolan Mader added 11 points apiece and Zach Frederick 10.

Tri-County North 62, Bradford 50: Wyatt Royer turned in 22 points to lead Tri-County North.

Trotwood 89, Northmont 62: Trotwood closed the regular season with a 13-0 mark in the Greater Western Ohio Conference.

Urbana 68, Ben Logan 64, OT: Grant Hower had nine of his 23 points in overtime, including a pair of dunks, to help Urbana earn the win.

Versailles 48, Delphos St. John’s 38: Michael Stammen tallied 20 points and Versailles won the Midwest Athletic Conference title with a perfect record in league play.

West Liberty-Salem 95, Triad 55: Holden Nease turned in 27 points, Matthew Loffing 16 and Jack Eggleston 13 for WLS. Dillon Nott totaled 23 points for Triad.

Xenia 56, Fairborn 52: Zack Gaither spurred Xenia with 14 points and Gavin Gerhardt added 11.

Division II

Poelking Marian: Greenon rolled a 3519 to win and Mechanicsburg placed second with a 3477. Versailles, Urbana, Alter, Kenton Ridge, Ben Logan and Fort Loramie also advanced. Erika Haffner of Kenton Ridge had the high series of 581 and Madison Boggs of Mechanicsburg bowled a 580.

Colerain Bowl: Cin. Christian finished second with a 3091 to qualify for the district tournament. Talia Heater led the way with a 571 series and Maddie Porter rolled a 459. Beau Pagnard of Middletown Christian and Izabel Giglio of Fenwick each qualified individually.
