HS Roundup 4/17: CJ baseball tops Tipp with rally victory

Chaminade Julienne pushed across the tying and go-ahead runs in the top of the seventh to beat host Tippecanoe 3-2 in baseball on Wednesday.

Sebastian Gongora struck out 11 and recorded the win, moving his record to 4-0.

At the plate for CJ Andrew Tillman was 1-for-2 with one run scored and A.J. Solomon had two RBI and two stolen bases.

Matt Salmon and Eli Hadden each had one hit and one RBI to pace Tippecanoe.

CJ improved to 11-2; Tippecanoe fell to 9-5.

Baseball

Indian Lake 12, Urbana 3: Matthew Risner plated three runs and Ethan Fulkerson and Clay Jacobs added two RBI apiece to pace Indian Lake.

Kenton Ridge 7, Springfield Shawnee 3: Collin Perkins picked up the win, improving to 3-0, and Matt Tateman nailed down the save for Kenton Ridge. Garrett Kelly, Kaelan Lemen and Alex Ward each had two hits.

Mechanicsburg 10, West Liberty-Salem 9: ‘Burg brought in the winning run with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to win in walk-off fashion. Nick Burden and Zack Glock each had three hits for WLS, which rallied from a six-run deficit to send the game into extras.

North Union 18, Ben Logan 13: Trace Tevis tallied four hits in a losing effort for Ben Logan, which totaled 17 hits in the game.

Softball

Ben Logan 2, North Union 1: Haley Wilson doubled in Gretchen Wilber and Jenn Naragon in the top of the sixth inning to put Ben Logan ahead for good and Grace Deardurff recorded the win.

Chaminade Julienne 20, Carroll 0: Carly Fugett pitched a perfect game for CJ, totaling 12 strikeouts in the process.

Eaton 5, Valley View 0: Annika Gels and Erica Wilkenson combined on a no-hit shutout for Eaton. Gels threw five innings and struck out seven and Wilkenson tossed two innings with three strikeouts.

Kenton Ridge 7, Springfield Shawnee 6: Paige Williams recorded three hits and drove in four runs to lead Kenton Ridge. Bree Trainer added a double and Lexee Trainer and Maddy Hall each had a triple. Alise Moneypenny and Reagan Simpson both had doubles for Shawnee.

West Liberty-Salem 5, Mechanicsburg 2: Hallie Strapp homered and doubled, scoring twice and driving in two runs to lead WLS. Arrah Sandy added a double with two RBI. Audrey Ayers knocked out a solo home run for ‘Burg.

Boys Tennis

Miamisburg 5, Franklin 0: Sekar Dhanasekar, Krithik Tella and Ethan Carey swept the singles matches for ‘Burg, with Tella recording his first varsity victory in second singles.

Tecumseh 4, Springfield 1: Drew Sarihan and Parker Randenburg picked up singles wins and Tecumseh swept the doubles matches. Ethan Cundiff won in first singles for Springfield.

Boys Volleyball

Chaminade Julienne 3, McNicholas 1: Andrew Barnes put up 12 kills, Eric Miller added 11 and A.J. Murray tallied 25 assists for CJ.

Elder 3, Alter 1: Collin Kepple led Alter with nine kills, nine digs and four aces. Aidan Tyra added six kills with a block and Michael Johnston had 13 digs.
