HS Results for 3/17: Delphos SJ’s advances to state tournament

Jared Wurst sank a pair of clutch foul shots in the closing seconds to help Delphos SJ’s top St. Peter’s 44-43 in a thriller of a Division IV regional final on Saturday.

Owen Rode led Delphos SJ’s in scoring with 14 points, while Tim Kreeger added on 12 and Wurst finished with seven points.

Jake Jakubick had 13 points for St. Peter’s.

The game swayed in DSJ’s favor first, leading St. Peter’s 12-10 at the end of the first quarter. St. Peter’s fought back and a 13-11 second quarter had St. Peter’s leading by four at the half.

St. Peter’s held onto their momentum in the third quarter, topping DSJ 32-28, but a fourth quarter push by Delphos SJ’s ended St. Peter’s season with a 44-43 DSJ win.

Delphos SJ’s will play Luthern East in the first round of the state tournament at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus on March 23 at 5:15 p.m.
