Olympic Trials: Springfield’s Lloyd earns semifinal spot in 100 hurdles

Springfield native Cassandra Lloyd, a Wright State graduate, advanced to the semifinals in the 100-meter hurdles by finishing fifth in her heat and 18th overall with a time of 13.08 at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. The semifinals are today at 6:58 p.m., followed by the finals.

• Dayton native Quincy Downing, a recent LSU graduate, had the fifth-fastest time (49.94) to advance to the semifinals of the 400-meter hurdles. Antonio Blanks, a Dunbar High graduate, finished 24th overall and did not advance.

• In the 1,500, Oregon’s Sam Prakel (Versailles) finished fifth in his heat in 3:50.73 to earn a spot in today’s semifinals.

• Tippecanoe High School grad Katie Landwehr ran a personal-best 9:41.22 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase final, placing 11th. The top three qualified for Rio.
