Ohio State should follow Oregon’s lead with mascot tribute uniforms

After pioneering the whole alternate uniform thing that has pervaded college football for better or for worse in the past decade or so, Oregon has a new idea.

The Ducks are going to dress like, well, ducks.

As in their mascot, Puddles.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course, but this general alternate uni skeptic finds these to be fantastic.

First of all, this is a great idea. Second, the look is actually pretty classic even if it had nothing to do with Puddles.

The only way it could be more authentic would be if they put a replica of his hat on top of the helmet, but that might take away from the crispness of the look.

The obvious follow-up to this is, should more teams do this? And the obvious answer is, “YES!”

We need look no further than Ohio State, where the mascot is actually already dressed like an old-time football player for the most part.

And of course Brutus’ head would lend itself quite well to being a helmet.

Plus, he already wears receivers’ gloves anyway, so this should be an easy transition.
