Cooper is a senior captain and returning starter from Gahanna (Ohio) Lincoln who has not played in a game this season after suffering a leg injury in the preseason.
Smith is a sophomore who has been among the group to replace him in the rotation. The Cleveland native started last week’s game at Indiana but suffered an undisclosed injury. He was also slowed at the start of the season by recovery from an offseason surgery, but Ohio State coach Ryan Day said Thursday this is a new injury without going into any further detail.
Sophomore Tyler Friday and true freshman Zach Harrison are listed as co-starters at the end position left open by the injuries to Cooper and Smith.
