Offense excelling for Dayton Flyers in recent weeks

Dayton had 26 assists on 28 field goals Tuesday

The Dayton Flyers enter the stretch run of the 2016-17 season with an offense rounding into peak form.

UD routed Saint Louis 85-63 on Tuesday at Chaifetz Arena by recording 26 assists on 28 field goals. That's hard to do. It signals players are running the offense and making the extra pass and not trying to beat the defender one-on-one.

In the last seven seasons, Dayton has recorded 20 or more assists 22 times. Its 92.8 assist/field goal rate on Tuesday is its best during that time. That’s narrowly better than a 2012 game against St. Joseph’s when the Flyers had 21 assists on 23 field goals.

Dayton has produced two of its best assists games of the past seven years this month. It had 30 assists on 37 field goals on Feb. 4 against Duquesne.

According to KenPom.com’s efficiency rating, Dayton’s offensive performance against the Billikens, who rank last in the Atlantic 10 in field-goal percentage defense, was its third best of the season. UD’s offensive efficiency rating for the season has jumped to No. 59, almost twice as good as it was in January. The defense has ranked in the top 30 for most of the season.
