If dad’s a race fan, then the Miami Valley offers a variety of options to help celebrate Father’s Day this weekend:
Kil-Kare Speedway & Dragway: The International Outlaw Figure 8 Series rolls into Kil-Kare Speedway today, June 18. The Kil-Kare regulars are on the card, too. Dayton’s Don Mahaffey won his fourth late model feature last week coming from the tail. On Saturday, the dragway heats up the strip with the National Dragster Challenge. Winners in the Super Pro, Pro Sportsman and Pro Bike divisions earn a Wally.
Shady Bowl Speedway: The American Modified Series continues its points battle — Troy’s Greg Stapleton is the defending champ — while the Super Cup Stock Car Series makes its Bowl debut Saturday. The SCSCS attracts drivers from nearby states, but Ohio drivers have won the past two titles. Columbus’ Tyler Nuckles won the points in 2009, and South Charleston’s Ryan Miller edged Miamisburg’s Megan Reitenour for the 2008 title.
Eldora Speedway: The track hosts the UMP modifieds, stock cars and Circle Track mini-trucks, an independent touring series, on Saturday. Don’t miss the drivers’ autograph session from 4:45 to 6 p.m.
Waynesfield Raceway Park: It’s Ohio vs. Michigan in a non-wing sprint showdown on Saturday. The mini-sprints, trucks and compacts are also in action.
Dayton Motorcycle Club: The track behind the clubhouse on Stony Hollow Road returns to action with the Southwestern Motocross Series on Sunday.

Tickets for the “Dew It To Hewitt” Roast — a tribute to sprint car driver Jack Hewitt — are on sale.
Tickets are $30, a price that includes dinner. Dave Argabright, co-author of Hewitt’s autobiography, will serve as emcee.
Tickets are available by calling the Valley Eye Institute at 866-709-2020. Due to the nature of the roast’s comments and jokes it is asked that children not attend.
The event benefits the Midwest Auto Racing Charities (MARC).
