Kirk Herbstreit wades into Trump talk, RNC in CLE on Twitter

Kirk Herbstreit is not only an excellent college football analyst but also an intrepid tweeter.

He provided a reminder Thursday night when he waded into the minefield that is the 2016 presidential election.

“Best I’ve heard Donald Trump sound during this entire campaign,” the ESPN college football commentator tweeted. “Finally talking about issues and his plans to resolve them. Sounds great.”

That observation — which probably lands in the 99th percentile of sane, measured Trump observations on Twitter — seemed to get the most notice and interactions, but it was not a one-off.

The Centerville native and former Ohio State quarterback sent out several other observations on the final night of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, adding plenty of context to his interest in the whole thing.

(Not that anyone should have to explain why they are interested in our political process, of course…)

And of course no check-in with Herbstreit’s twitter feed is complete without a reminder that he tends to get some (Bizarre? Insane? Absurd?) interesting responses quite regularly.

It’s probably safe to conclude Herbstreit, like the rest of us, is ready for the return of football season.
