Hue Jackson needs more Christmas Eve magic

In perusing the evergrowing list of peculiar NFL stats, you won’t find one much more unexplainable than Hue Jackson and Christmas Eve.

Before being fired after his 2011 season in Oakland, Jackson’s Raiders lost four of five down the stretch to finish 8-8. Their lone win came in overtime at Kansas City - on Christmas Eve.

Fast-forward to 2016. Jackson and the Browns are 0-14. They upset the Chargers to avoid the dreaded 0-16 label; the win coming, of course, on Christmas Eve.

Jackson and the night before Christmas meet again Saturday against a lackluster Bears team. He’ll go for his third win in 34 tries, with the only two victories coming on Dec. 24.

If he and the Browns lose, it will have been over a calendar year since they won a game.

The Browns fired general manager Sashi Brown and replaced him with John Dorsey, but the team said Jackson would return for year three despite a 1-29 record.

As pointed out, Christmas Eve is on a Monday next year. It’s unlikely ESPN will have the Browns in its holiday (or any) primetime slot. So Sunday may be Jackson’s last chance for a while.
