HS Highlights for Oct. 6: Springboro girls rally in fundraiser match

The Springboro girls volleyball team rallied to edge Alter 3-2 in a match that also served as a fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Research Foundation on Thursday.

Springboro trailed 2-1 after dropping the 2nd and 3rd sets, rallying with scores of 25-22 and 15-11 in the final sets for the win. Ashleigh Holweger had 4 clutch kills and Maddi Ray and Rachel Gillum contributed key blocks throughout the match.

The win marked the 13th straight for Springboro, which improved to 17-3 overall.

Bellbrook 3, Oakwood 1: Bellbrook took the final 2 sets 25-16 and 25-15 to remain unbeaten in league play with a 17-2 mark for the season.

Fairmont 3, Springfield 0: Maura Hill led Fairmont with 14 digs and Kara Jones added 7 kills while Natalie Heindl had 12 assists. Naomi Hoofkin and Taryn Freer each had 4 kills for Springfield.

Graham 3, Indian Lake 0: Kaitlin Trace recorded 18 kills, Molly Hamilton had 31 assists and Claire Comer added 14 digs for Graham.

Southeastern 3, Triad 0: Leslie Flores tallied 13 kills with 10 digs and 5 blocks, Leah Ruby had 31 assists and Maddy McKee added 18 digs for Southeastern.

Football

Belmont 54, Cin. Prep 13: Belmont scored 40 unanswered points in the first half. Elijah Malcolm led the way with 11 carries for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Derrick Conner racked up 126 yards on the ground with 2 TD runs.

Boys Soccer

Beavercreek 4, Elder 1: Dominic Calabrese tallied 3 goals and Vince Young added a goal with 2 assists for Beavercreek.

Bethel 4, Miami East 2: Daniel Ross netted 3 goals to help Bethel clinch at least a tie of the CCC championship. Bethel will have a shot to win it outright at Twin Valley South on Thursday.

Dayton Christian 4, Troy Christian 2: Dayton Christian handed Troy Christian its first loss. Jake Erlandson led the way with 2 goals and Alex Reid and Sam Thompson each added a score. Jon Slone and Colt Tanner had goals for Troy Christian.

Dixie 4, Carlisle 1: Tristan Hall paced Dixie with 3 goals.

Franklin-Monroe 7, Twin Valley South 2: Franklin-Monroe pulled away with 5 unanswered goals in the second half.

Newton 7, Twin Valley South 0: Nick Honeycutt set a school record with his 72nd career goal, breaking an 11-year old mark set by Nick Olaya. Honeycutt had 5 goals and Jack Yoder knocked in the other 2 for Newton.

Temple Christian 2, Lehman Catholic 0: Cameron Worsham put Temple Christian on the board and Dakota Clay added an insurance goal.

Girls Soccer

Greeneview 5, Northeastern 0: Olivia Maxwell poured in four goals to help Greeneview finish in a tie for first place in the OHC with West Liberty-Salem and Catholic Central.

Lehman Catholic 1, Anna 0: Keeper Savannah Hostetler grabbed 3 saves in the loss.

Mechanicsburg 5, Southeastern 1: Tori Jacobs scored all 5 goals for Mechanicsburg and Meagan Hux and Gabby Terry each had an assist.

Newton 2, Tri-County North 0: Brittney Koble and McKenna Demido netted the goals for Newton.

Springboro 5, Kings 1: Livi Page scored twice and Kam Davis and Laurin Uptegrove chipped in a goal and an assist apiece to lead Springboro.
