High-scoring Sinclair Community College guard makes college choice

Sean McNeil will play for Bob Huggins at West Virginia

Sinclair Community College freshman guard Sean McNeil, the leading scorer in Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association, committed to West Virginia University on Sunday. He made the announcement with a video posted to Twitter.

McNeil was recruited by the Dayton Flyers throughout the 2018-19 season and listed Dayton among his final three schools in an interview with Dayton Daily News columnist Tom Archdeacon earlier this month.

McNeil, who's from Union, Ky., averaged 29.7 points per game in 31 games for Sinclair. He shot 43.1 percent from 3-point range and scored a Sinclair-record 55 points in a game in November. He was named a NJCAA D-II first-team All-American.

His recruiting took off during the season, and he narrowed his choices to Texas Tech, Oregon, West Virginia, Ole Miss, Western Kentucky and Dayton in March.

McNeil joins a program coming off its first losing season in six years. The Mountaineers finished 15-21 after a four-year stretch in which they won 105 games and appeared in the NCAA tournament every season. Bob Huggins, who made at least two trips to Sinclair during the recruiting process, is entering his 13th season as head coach.
