Springfield rallies past Wayne in baseball

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield High School sophomore Titus Montgomery hit a game-winning single to cap off a five-run sixth inning as Springfield beat Wayne 11-10 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division baseball opener on Wednesday, April 14.

Trey DePriest had three hits and three RBIs for the Wildcats (10-2). The Warriors (5-5) had six infield hits and seven errors.

• Andrew Young’s RBI double in the third led Shawnee (7-6, 4-1 Central Buckeye Conference) to a 3-2 win over Indian Lake.

• Ryan Kunkel had two doubles, a triple and two RBIs as Graham (7-4, 4-1 CBC) beat Stebbins 7-3.

Softball

Amber Campbell and Sami Smiddy both had three RBIs and Marta Lockwood had a double and a two-run homer as Shawnee (7-4, 4-1 CBC) outslugged Indian Lake 11-2.

• Macie Jenkins went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs and Addie Dixon also knocked in four runs as Triad (9-4, 5-2 Ohio Heritage Conference) beat host Northeastern 10-2.

• Wayne scored an unearned run on a two-out error in the top of the eighth to beat Springfield 2-1 in the GWOC Central opener for both teams.

CeCe DeBartolo threw a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Wildcats (6-7).

• Chloe Ward had four RBIs and Brooke Dodaine and Lindsay Myers both knocked in three runs as Graham (8-3, 5-0 CBC) defated Stebbins 13-2.

Boys tennis

Kenton Ridge’s Tony Delledonne battled past Springfield’s Rohit Nezhad 6-2, 6-4 in second singles to help give the host Cougars a 3-2 victory over the Wildcats (5-3). The Cougars improved to 8-2.
