“We had more chances than they did, but we didn’t have a lot of clear chances,” Central coach Shane Latham said. “It was a defensive battle. Seven Hills is a worthy opponent, but they are not anything like they were last year. We did more than enough to win the game, but it’s a very disappointing loss, especially at home.”
• Danny Valley scored two second-half goals for Shawnee as it rallied from a 3-1 halftime deficit to beat Northeastern 4-3.
Girls soccer
Brooke Maletic and Paige Lewis scored for Catholic Central in a 2-1 victory over Seven Hills.
•Briana Baise had four goals and two assists and Bennie Ryan added a pair of scores as Shawnee opened its season with a 7-0 blanking of Northeastern.
Girls golf
Greenon and Graham each shot 199, but the Falcons won on a fifth-man tiebreaker. Taylor Dyke’s score of 65 was the difference. Greenon had only four golfers.
Greenon’s Haley Larson led all players with a 44.
Boys golf
Tecumseh warmed up for today’s showdown with Kenton Ridge and Shawnee by winning the Scwab Invitational at Dayton Country Club.
The Arrows totaled 160 for nine holes, besting runner-up Wayne (166). Casey Stafford was medalist for the match with a 34, while Brad Rogers added a 39.
• Drue LeMasters shot 38 to lead Triad over Catholic Central 177-190.
• Nick Sims set a West Liberty-Salem nine-hole record with a 33 in a 153-206 victory over Southeastern at Liberty Hills.
Girls tennis
Kenzie Detrick won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles in a 4-1 victory for Shawnee over Urbana. Cassie Beam and Megan Oxner lost their first set at No. 1 doubles 6-1, but won the next two 6-2, 6-3.
• Kenton Ridge beat Greenon 5-0, but all three singles matches featured a tiebreaker.
Hannah Benston won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 6-0. Emily Bonar won at No. 2 singles 6-4, 7-6 (7-1). Megan Schmitt won at No. 3 singles 7-6 (7-0), 6-1.
