Prep Roundup: Northeastern sweeps Southeastern Invite

SOUTH CHARLESTON — The Northeastern High School boys and girls track and field teams won the Southeastern Invitational on Saturday, April 24.

The girls team scored 119 points. Greenon (85.3) finished second. Xenia Christian (83) took third.

The Jets’ first-place finishes came from: Macy Dix in the high jump (4-feet-10); Erica Summerfield in the shot put (29-7); Jillian Adams in the discus (101-1); the 400-meter relay team; and Haley McCohn in the 400 (1:02.2).

In the boys meet, Northeastern (123 points) edged Mechanicsburg (117). Shawnee (105) finished third.

Mechanicsburg’s Joe Webb won three events: the high jump (6-0), the 400 (50.4) and the 200 (22.9).

Shawnee had two double winners. Brad Warnock won the discus (151-5) and the shot put (49-7). Brandon Cook won the 110 hurdles (15.02) and 300 hurdles (40.6).

The Northeastern boys won the 3,200 relay (8:34.7) and 400 relay (44.9). Michael Lanning of the Jets won the 800 (2:04.3).

Boys tennis

Northwestern’s Zack Wildofsky defeated Catholic Central’s Pat Burns 8-5 to win the first singles division with a 3-0 record at the Northwestern Invitational.

Baseball

Springfield improved to 14-5 with a doubleheader sweep of Greenon, 16-2 and 14-4. Both games ended in five innings. Austin Bailey went 5-for-6 with four RBIs.

• Tyler Reisinger pitched a five-inning no-hitter in a 10-0 victory for Triad over Waynesfield-Goshen. He struck out seven and walked one. Reisinger picked up his second win of the day in game two as the Cardinals (16-5) won 8-7 in nine inninngs.

• Jeremy Noffke and Cody Kaffenbarger each drove in four runs in Northwestern’s 17-2 victory over Miami East in the second game of a doubleheader. The win ended a 10-game losing streak.

• Northeastern (7-7) split a doubleheader with Columbus West, winning 7-5 before losing 8-7. Phil Mowell went 6-for-8 in both games, and Zac Robbins went 5-for-7.

Softball

CeCe DeBartolo struck out 21 batters in two games, both wins for Springfield over Greenon. The Wildcats won 10-0 and 8-2, improving to 9-11. Jamie Easterday and Shelby Evans each had five hits.

• Mechanicsburg split two games at the Houston Invitational. It beat Ansonia 6-2 and lost to Elida 8-7. Lacey Romero had three hits against Ansonia. The Indians are 9-6.

• Liz Matthews went 7-for-7 with three doubles and five RBIs as Kenton Ridge (14-6) swept Bellbrook 7-4 and 11-3.

• Erica Roberts and Savannah Leep both went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs as Northwestern (7-9) beat Triad 11-1 at the Northwestern Invitational.

The Cardinals (14-7) defeated Miami East 5-2.
