Prep Highlights: Kenton Ridge boys tennis still perfect this season

SPRINGFIELD — Kenton Ridge High School senior Brendan Taylor outlasted Eric Lovett, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3, in third singles as the Cougars boys tennis team defeated Stebbins 4-1 in Central Buckeye Conference action Thursday.

Luke Schlicher won in straight sets in first singles action. Both doubles teams for Kenton Ridge did the same (3-0, 2-0 CBC).

• Springfield’s Nauman Rauf won his third first singles match this week as the Wildcats blanked Trotwood, 5-0.

Rauf defeated Savont Moore, 6-1, 6-7 (8-6), 7-6 (7-5). Rauf has also had three-set marathons against Greeneview’s Garrett Sargent and Northwestern’s Zack Wildofsky, this week.

Baseball: Tre McIntyre hit a two-run triple that sparked a five-run third inning as host Triad defeated West Liberty-Salem 5-2.

Doug Lowe struck out 10 for the Cardinals (4-1, 2-0 Ohio Heritage Conference).

The Tigers are now 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the OHC.

• Derek Zinkhon tossed a one-hitter with eight strikeouts as Shawnee (3-1, 1-0 CBC) beat Greenon 10-0 in five innings.

Softball: Becca Carpenter struck out 10, had three hits, including two doubles and two RBIs as Southeastern (3-2, 1-1 OHC) defeated Mechanicsburg 9-1.

• Barbara Russell’s RBI single in the seventh was the game winner as Tecumseh (2-1) edged Troy, 3-2.

• Brigette Castiaux had five RBI’s to help power Kenton Ridge (1-2) past Indian Lake 8-2 in the CBC opener for both teams.
