Prep bowling: KR boys advance to district

Southeastern, Greenon, Mechanicsburg and NW also advanced.

HUBER HEIGHTS — Five area boys bowling teams, including champion Kenton Ridge, advanced to next week’s district tournament at the sectional tournament at Poelking Marian Lanes on Wednesday.

Kenton Ridge won the title with 4,319 pins, 19 ahead of runner-up Southeastern (4,300 pins), who advanced to the districts for the first time in school history.

Each team bowled three individual games and six baker games.

The top six teams and top six individuals from non-qualifying teams advanced to the district tournament, which will be held next Friday at Eastern Lanes in Middletown.

Greenon, advancing for the first time in school history, was fourth with 4,140 pins, followed by Mechanicsburg (4,104 pins) and Northwestern (4,041 pins).

The area’s individual qualifiers included Graham junior Lloyd Eaton (680, second overall), Springfield juniors Alex Shew (655, fifth) and Alex Maiolo (655, fifth), Urbana senior Brendon Miller (650, eighth), Catholic Central freshman James Smith (647) and West Liberty-Salem junior Garret Rudasill (639, 11th).

Mechanicsburg senior Kyle Mayberry was the individual sectional champion with a 687 series. Northwestern sophomore Tim Evans was third (675), while Southeastern junior Trey Cooper was seventh (654) and KR’s Kyle Beers was ninth (648).

Urbana barely missed out on a spot at districts, finishing seventh with 3,992.

The top four teams and top four individuals at the district tournament will advance to the OHSAA state championships, which will be held March 2 at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
