Greenon High School senior Lianne Masquelier had no idea she was about to be named Clark County’s top girls basketball player until her coach stood up to announce the honor.

Masquelier was honored with the Pam Evans Smith Coaches All-Clark County Miss Basketball Award at Wittenberg’s Shouvlin Center on Tuesday.

“I was not expecting that,” Masquelier said. “I was surprised and I’m very thankful to have a great team and coach to back me up.”

Masquelier, also one of 10 girls named to the All-County basketball team chosen by Clark County coaches, did just about everything for the Knights. The 5-foot-9 guard averaged 10.4 points, 6.5 assists, 5.2 steals and 2.5 rebounds for Greenon (14-8).

Among her season highlights, Masquelier handed out a season-high 12 assists in a 70-49 win against Indian Lake on Jan. 18.

Joining Masquelier on the team was fellow senior Stefanie Davis (Kenton Ridge), juniors Baylee Bennett (Kenton Ridge), Taylor Burson (Greenon) and Brittany Ruhe (Northeastern) and sophomores Sydney Bates (Kenton Ridge), Danielle Franklin (Tecumseh), Lindsey Nartker (Tecumseh), Katelyn Partlow (Northwestern) and Lexie Perry (Southeastern) were named to the team.

Kenton Ridge coach Ed Foulk, the longest-tenured coach in Clark County, won his second Coach of the Year award. He was also honored in 2011.

Foulk guided the Cougars to a 26-2 record in the regular season and the Kenton Division title in the Central Buckeye Conference at 10-0. KR finished ranked No. 7 in Division II of the final AP poll and reached the regional final before falling to Kettering Alter.

“The award doesn’t belong to me, it belongs to our eleven players and our coaching staff,” Foulk said. “We probably had more teamwork than any year I coached.”

Kenton Ridge senior Sara Thornton was honored with the Southwest Ohio Officials Association Outstanding Sportsmanship award, the first player from KR to win.

Greenon coach Gary Falkenbach was honored with the coach’s award for the second straight season and third time overall.
