Graham boys win own cross country invitational

ST. PARIS — The Division II 14th-ranked Graham High School boys cross country team defended its home turf on Saturday, Sept. 19, winning the Graham Invitational with 75 points.

Senior Zach Hawke finshed fourth (17:02) for the Falcons, while Robbie Pumphrey was seventh (17:17), Jon McMaken was 11th (17:40), Taylor Wright was 18th (18:01) and Caleb Pumphrey was 36th (18:50).

Versailles placed second, followed by West Liberty-Salem. The Tigers’ Colin Wilson (9th, 17:28), Aaron Scott (17th, 17:59) and Matt Vogel (19th, 18:01) all finished inside the top-20.

Kevin Stewart was sixth for Mechanicsburg in 17:17.

On the girls side, the 19th-ranked West Liberty-Salem finished overall to third-ranked Versailles, falling by just eight points.

Five freshmen led the way for the Tigers, all placing in the top-20. Shawnda Henault was third for the Tigers in 20:05, followed by Jasmine Smith (7th, 21:03), Jordan Smith (21:21), Meghan Vogel (13th, 21:23) and Savanna Shipp (19th, 21:59).

Northeastern’s Molly King placed fifth in 20:48 for the third-place Jets. Southeastern’s Marie Egbert was fourth in 20:13.

• Emmanuel Christian Isaiah Bragg won the Cedarville Unversity Friendship Meet Boys Division II-III race with a time of 16:10. Northwestern Andrew Spencer placed fifth (17:43) as the Warriors finished second (96).

Jasmine Redman finsihed second with a time of 19:58 and Jaci Combs was eighth (20:43) as Tecumseh placed second in the Girls D-I race.

• Kenton Ridge freshman Brandon Townsend finished fifth in the Boys Division II-III race at the Alliance Invitational with a time of 16:40. Greenon’s Mary Wenzell placed fifth (19:52) and Megan Ball finished sixth (20:06) in the Division II girls race.

Volleyball

Lindsey Butterfield had 21 kills and MaRanda Boddie-Cannon added 14 kills as host Springfield (10-0) swept a tri-meet over Northeastern (25-15, 25-16) and Shawnee (25-21, 25-17).

• Becka Peterson spiked 29 kills and Kayla Peterson dished out 54 as West Liberty-Salem beat host Wapkoneta 25-18, 24-26, 27-25 and Bellefontaine 25-21, 25-18.

Girls Soccer

Katie Detwiler scored two second-half goals to snap a 1-1 halftime tie and lift host West Liberty-Salem past Benjamin Logan, 3-1. Alyssa Neff scored the first-goal for the Tigers (6-2-1).

• Brandi Fitzwater had a goal and an assist and Hannah Rutledge also scored in the first haf as host Graham (5-1-1) held on to beat Piqua 2-1.

Boys Golf

Cedarville freshman Jordan Reese won his first 18-hole invitational with a score of 76 at the Middletown Christian Invitational at Browns Run.
