Four area girls teams advance to district bowling

HUBER HEIGHTS — Graham, Mechanicsburg, Urbana and Greenon all finished in the top six at the girls sectional bowling tournament at Marian Lanes on Friday, advancing to next week’s district tournament.

Versailles won the meet with a score of 4,016. Sidney scored 3,953 and was followed by Graham (3,825), Mechanicsburg (3,764), Urbana (3,593) and Greenon (3,576). It’s the first district berth for Greenon.

Kenton Ridge just missed qualifying, placing seventh (3,478).

She bowled a 233 in her second game.

Graham’s Alishia Schwierking finished second with a 654 and was followed by Kenton Ridge’s Brigette Castiaux (639), Graham’s Emily Ogden (629) and Mechanicsburg’s Megan Gaver (626), as the area swept the top five spots.

Castiaux qualified for the district tournament as an individual. The top six individuals not on qualifying teams advanced.

Other area individual qualifiers were: Shawnee’s Lily Minter, 10th (583); Springfield’s Candace Oty, 17th (560); and Greeneview’s Hannah McGrew, 18th (557). Oty is the first Springfield High School girl bowler to reach the district tournament.
