Cash, Thomas first team All-Ohio

Abby Cash of Miami East and Tri-Village’s Shaye Thomas were named first team on the Associated Press All-Ohio girls high school basketball teams released Tuesday.

Cash, a 6-foot senior, was a Division III choice. She averaged 12 points for the Vikings (25-2). Miami East was knocked out of the postseason by Anna in last weekend’s D-III regional final, 62-52.

She also was a four-time, first team Cross County Conference pick and the Southwest District player of the year.

Cash also played a key role in the Vikings’ D-III state volleyball championship last fall.

Thomas amassed more than 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists and 300 steals in a four-year career. She helped Tri-Village advance to the final four in 2012. The Patriots were beaten by Fort Loramie in last weekend’s regional final.

Anna’s Natalie Billing and Darian Rose of Fort Loramie were second-team picks. Billing, a 5-11, senior, averaged 16.7 points and was named to the D-III team.

Rose, a 5-8 junior, landed on the D-IV team.

Also, Xenia Christian’s Michaela Nelson was chosen to the D-IV third team. The 5-8 senior averaged 16.0 points.

Area D-III special mention picks were Megan Miller (Madison) and Ashton Lovely (Greeneview). Area players making D-IV special mention were Amanda Slone (Troy Christian) and Haley Horstman (New Knoxville).

The selections were based on the recommendations of a media panel.
