Boys Hoops Roundup: Springfield falls on shot in final seconds

SPRINGFIELD — Keith Richardson’s fast-break layup with 8 seconds remaining after a steal by Devon Carter lifted the Northmont High School boys basketball team to a 56-54 victory over Springfield on Friday.

The Wildcats missed a shot at the buzzer. They lost their third straight game and finished the regular season at 6-14 overall and 2-8 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division.

Springfield lost another close one to Northmont on Jan. 13, 53-54. Springfield led 42-38 after three quarters, but it was outscored 18-12 in the final quarter. Darryl Perry had 17 points, and Ryan Minney added 14.

Troy Mangen and Jamal Trammell each had 11 points for Northmont (14-6, 8-2 GWOC).

Graham 57, Northwestern 35: The Falcons hit nine 3-pointers, improving to 12-7 and 7-3 in the Central Buckeye Conference Mad River Division.

Austin Morgan led the Falcons with 17 points. Austin Hicks hit four 3-pointers and scored 14. Grant Goddard hit three 3-pointers, finishing with 11 points.

Cough Lough had 14 points for the Warriors (4-15, 3-7 CBC).

Urbana 55, Indian Lake 30: The Hillclimbers (18-1 overall) finished their CBC Mad River Division schedule a perfect 10-0. It’s their first perfect record in division play.

Karl Singer led Urbana with 23 points. The Hillclimbers take a 16-game winning streak into their regular-season finale against Stebbins tonight.

Bellefontaine 51, Shawnee 32: The Braves were outscored 18-6 in the first quarter and had just 19 points through three quarters.

Derek Tincher led Shawnee (13-6, 8-2 CBC) with 15 points.

Tecumseh 61, Kenton Ridge 35: The Arrows (14-6, 7-3 CBC) swept the season series from the Cougars (6-14, 0-10 CBC).

Chase Culbertson hit five 3-pointers and scored 18 points to lead Tecumseh. Trent Mead added 12 points, and Alex Sheets 10.

Southeastern 67, Cedarville 37: The Trojans shot 52 percent the field and finished the regular season at 12-8 and 8-6 in the Ohio Heritage Conference. P.J. Banion and Jordan Hitt each scored 14 points for Southeastern.

Catholic Central 74, Mechanicsburg 68: In a game that featured 69 free-throw attempts, the Irish made 30-of-43. Central’s Brian Kelly made 16-of-21 and finished with 26 points.

The teams ended up tied for second in the OHC at 10-4.

Benjamin Logan 64, Greenon 56: The Raiders outscored the Knights 15-9 in the fourth quarter.

Anthony Colletti led Greenon (9-11, 4-6 CBC) with 23 points.

Troy Christian 92, Emmanuel Christian 38: The Lions lost their third game in a row, finishing the regular season 4-16 and 2-10 in the Metro Buckeye Conference.

Miami Valley 58, Yellow Springs 51: Roland Newsome and Robbie Jones each scored 15 for the Bulldogs (6-13, 5-7 MBC).

Triad 56, West Liberty-Salem 47: The Cardinals (4-15, 3-11 OHC) outrebounded the Tigers 39-27 and outscored them 15-9 at the free-throw line.

Triad pulled away in the third quarter with a 16-9 advantage. Hank LeVan led the Cardinals with 17 points. He had eight in the fourth quarter.

Landon Hormann scored 26 for the Tigers (6-14, 5-9 OHC).
