Springfield Catholic Central is off to a 2-0 start. It's been a while since Irish fans have had much to be happy about this time of year. The long-time small school playoff contender won only six games in the last four seasons.
The two wins to open the season have come against a pair of 0-2 teams and the Irish face another winless team — Bradford — this week. The Irish sit atop their region in the computer playoff rankings through two weeks.
Chaminade Julienne makes a second effort at their first win in Roger Glass Stadium on Friday night. The 0-2 Eagles face off against equally winless Meadowdale on Friday night in downtown Dayton.
Fenwick has come back to earth after flying high with an unbeaten regular season and three playoff wins last season.
The Falcons are 0-2, but those losses have come at the hands of two teams in bigger divisions with 2-0 records. They lost 42-41 to Anderson in overtime in Week 1, then dropped a 21-7 decision to Mt. Healthy last Friday.
Both of those were home games, as are the next two for the Falcons. Next up for Fenwick is Division I Lebanon on Friday night.
Coldwater makes the quick trip to Marion Local on Friday night for a showdown in the Midwest Athletic Conference.
The Cavaliers won on a late field goal last year after being shutout by the Flyers in 2014. Marion Local ended a run of four straight state titles in the championship game last season. Coldwater is on a current four-year title run and the Cavaliers have won 25 games in a row.
The Coldwater-Marion Local game is the Touchdown 7 Game of the Week. You can catch the highlights Friday night at 11:14 on WHIO-TV Ch. 7.
