Springfield receiver Shawn Thigpen will be staying in Ohio next season.

The senior announced Wednesday he has verbally committed to Bowling Green.

The 6-foot-4, 180-pounder caught three passes for 58 yards and a touchdown in the Wildcats’ season-opening win over St. Louis De Smet on Saturday and is a 247Sports three-star recruit.

He caught 54 passes for 780 yards and five touchdowns last season and built an offer list that also includes Akron, Buffalo, Central Michigan and Eastern Kentucky.

Thigpen is the No. 45 prospect in Ohio per 247Sports Composite rankings and the second area player to commit to Bowling Green, joining Centerville running back Emable Wakilongo.

Springfield has been a haven for college football prospects in recent seasons, and this year is no different.

Receiver Anthony Brown is the No. 11 prospect in Ohio and verbally committed to Kentucky while linebacker Jaivian Norman has verbally committed to Eastern Michigan while many other Wildcats are mulling college offers as the season gets underway.

Thigpen is the 20th area player from the class of 2023 to commit to an FBS school.
