Anthony Brown did not have to wait long to see if his decision to de-commit from Minnesota would impact his recruiting.

“Purdue, Cincinnati and Ohio State texted me right away when I tweeted,” the Springfield junior receiver told this news organization.

That tweet went up Monday morning and let colleges around the country know he is back on the market after being committed to the Golden Gophers since last fall.

His brother, Michael Brown-Stephens, is still a receiver at Minnesota, and coach P.J. Fleck’s program is still among the Brown’s potential college choices, but the Gophers have company.

Lots of company.

“I’m hearing most from Cincinnati and Purdue, but West Virginia, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan State and Iowa State have contacted me,” Brown said Tuesday morning. “Coach Fleck’s reaction was understanding. He said he’s still going to recruit me hard.”

Brown is a four-star prospect who earned honorable mention All-Ohio last season as he and the Wildcats won the GWOC.

They advanced to the Division I state championship game, where he caught six passes for 106 yards and a touchdown in a loss to Cleveland St. Ignatius.

Brown led the conference with 822 yards receiving and averaged 14.2 yards per catch with seven touchdowns.

At 5-10 and 169-pounds, he is the No. 5 prospect in the state of Ohio and the top receiver in the state per 247Sports Composite rankings.

He said he plans to take all his official visits before committing again.

“As of now, I want to explore my other options,” Brown said.

Nine area players appear in the early 247Sports Composite rankings for Ohio in the class of 2023.

Wayne offensive lineman Joshua Padilla, an Ohio State commit, is No. 3 in the state and tops among local players, while Lakota West defensive back Malik Hartford is No. 4 in the state.

Lakota East offensive lineman Austin Siereveld is seventh followed by Hamilton receiver/linebacker Breeon Ishmail (9).

Miamisburg teammates A.J. Salley (offensive line) and Christian Davis (running back) rank 10th and 11th in the state while Vikings tight end Jackson McGohan is 17th and Wayne offensive lineman Evan Tengesdahl is 18th.

Salley, McGohan and Tengesdahl are all verbally committed to Cincinnati.
