UD goes with all red logo on court at UD Arena

Dayton unveiled its new logo July 18 by showing it off at UD Arena. A red “D” with sharp blue lines off the left side to indicate motion adorned the center of the court. It was so new that day, the paint was still drying.

Ten days later, UD confirmed a slight change to that logo. The logo is now all red. This is one of three versions of the logo. There is an all-red version, an all-navy blue version and a multi-colored version.

“Before the floor was sealed, we reviewed the entire court, how it looked on camera and took feedback into consideration,” said Neil Sullivan, UD’s deputy athletic director. “We feel the red single-color version of the ‘wing-D’ looks better at midcourt. It’s the same logo depicted on the new home basketball uniforms.”

Dayton addressed the massive amount feedback it was getting about the logo on the university’s Facebook page three days after the unveiling of the logo.

“The passion of the Flyer Faithful is truly overwhelming,” the university wrote. “We have heard and read all of your comments and emails about the new athletics logo. Today, athletics is continuing to answer phone calls and emails, and hopes to respond as quickly as possible. Because of the volume of Facebook comments, not every one will be personally addressed.”
