Former Reds managers Lou Pinella, Davey Johnson on Hall of Fame ballot

Two former Reds managers are among the men on the Baseball Hall of Fame “Today’s Game Era” ballot released Monday.

Lou Pinella and Davey Johnson are the two managers on the list, joining players Harold Baines, Albert Belle, Will Clark, Orel Hershiser and Mark McGwire.

Also on the ballot are former MLB commissioner Bud Selig, former Braves GM John Schuerholtz and late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner.

Piniella managed the Reds to their most recent World Series title (1990) while Johnson was the manager the last time Cincinnati won a playoff series (1995 NLDS).

The ballot will be reviewed and voted on Dec. 5 at MLB’s winter meetings.

A 16-person panel will consider the candidates, and those nominees who receive at least 75 support will be elected to the Hall of Fame.

The “eras committees” have replaced what used to be known as the Veterans Committee and serve the purpose of reconsidering former players, managers and other contributors who were not elected during their normal eligiblity (if they had normal eligibility) by the Baseball Writers Association of America.

The Todays Game Era covers 1988-2016.
