The official Dayton basketball Twitter account shared the video on Sunday at 6 p.m., the time the NCAA tournament Selection Show would have started had the tournament not been cancelled Thursday.

The video opens with shots of the city of Dayton. Then Patrick’s narration begins.

“For Dayton, this is bigger than basketball,” Patrick said. “This is bigger than the team. This is for the city, a city that exudes more passion and grit than anywhere else. From the streets to the hardwood, this city is a basketball city, and the Flyers are their team. They represent every single person from this city, our city, the 937. They don’t do this for a ranking or a seed. They do it for the people, their people, their city. They do it for Dayton.”

Patrick is an Ohio native. He was born in Zanesville and attended Mason High School. He majored in communications at Dayton. He was a longtime host of ESPN’s SportsCenter from 1989-2006.

The video was produced by Jon Asher,  an assistant director of content creation at UD. Asher and AJ Schraffenberger, another digital content creator, filmed the team all season for the university. Ryan Phillips, a coordinator of digital strategy and marketing, wrote the narration, and Charlie Duross, a videographer and content creator, helped with editing.
