Browns fans should scrap unoriginal plan

OK, so these two bozo Browns fans can’t take the losing anymore and have come up with the idea for a protest to be staged before the Monday night game against the Baltimore Ravens in a couple of weeks.

They want ticket-holders to show up late so ESPN will have no choice but to transmit pictures of a sparsely populated Cleveland Browns Stadium at kickoff.

Dumb idea.

For one thing, even if team owner Randy Lerner paid attention to the stunt, it’s doubtful he’s in any position to enact meaningful change. For better or worse, he’s stuck with the current coach, Eric Mangini, for a few years because he’s tired of buying out contracts and no way is he going to admit making yet another mistake.

Put it this way: Lerner’s an Ivy League-educated guy who is smart enough to know how much of a laughingstock his franchise has become. Doubtful he needs a reminder. He gets it.

So the protest, if it does take place, won’t work. Just as it didn’t when fans tried similar stunts in Detroit and Cincinnati. Better to show up at the stadium — on time — with paper bags on their heads, as happened in New Orleans years ago. At least the viewers would get a chuckle out of it. Better yet, just stay home.

All this protest can do is further embarrass the team these guys claim to love. But maybe that’s just it. Maybe they actually secretly root for the Bengals or Steelers.
