DPS names former East St. Louis administrator as assistant AD

Dayton Public Schools on Monday announced Ramon C. Johnson has been named the second assistant athletic director.

Previously, Shawna Welch was named the DPS director of athletics and last month former Ohio State University women's basketball standout Marscilla Packer also was named an assistant AD.

A St. Louis native, Johnson previously held multiple positions the last 10 years with the neighboring East St. Louis (Ill.) School District: athletic liaison, dean of students/school improvement specialist, district security supervisor, head football and track and field coach. He also was a standout on the Kentucky State University football and track and field teams.

Welch formerly was the principal of Wright Brothers Middle School. She succeeded Mark Baker, now the DPS associate director of truancy. Packer was the AD at Cincinnati College Prep Academy and an assistant AD at Columbus School for Girls.
