Dayton offers scholarship to Sidney High School guard

Andre Gordon averaged 23.8 points per game as a junior

Sidney High School junior Andre Gordon received a scholarship offer from the Dayton Flyers on Tuesday while visiting campus.

Gordon, a two-sport standout who announced earlier this year he wouldn't play football as a senior and has decided to transfer to Huntington Prep (W.Va.) for his senior year, announced the offer on Twitter. He posted a photo of himself with Dayton coach Anthony Grant.

Gordon is a 6-foot-1 guard who ranked third in the Greater Western Ohio Conference in scoring (23.8) and averaged 5.6 rebounds and 5.5 assists. He earned an All-Ohio honorable mention in basketball.

Gordon played quarterback for Sidney and had scholarship offers in football from Iowa State, Ohio, Cincinnati, Toledo and others. In basketball, Akron was the first school to offer him a scholarship last June. Wright State, Cleveland State, Toledo and Kent State have also offered him scholarships in basketball. Gordon had an in-home visit with Illinois State on Monday, according to Jake Weingarten, of StockRisers.com.

• Frankie Policelli, a 6-8 forward in the class of 2018 from Long Island Lutheran High School (N.Y)., visited Dayton on Sunday. His mom Angie shared a photo on Twitter of the visit.

• Shane Gatling, a 6-2 guard from Indian Hills Community College, committed to Colorado on Sunday. Dayton had shown interest in Gatling in March, according to Indian Hills coach Hank Piona.
