Cougars’ McDavid on D-II All-Ohio second team

Kenton Ridge senior Jamari McDavid was named second team girls high school basketball Division II All-Ohio to highlight area selections. The Associated Press released the D-II and D-III girls teams Tuesday. Joining McDavid on the D-II second team was Benjamin Logan junior Nikki Current.

A four-year starter, McDavid averaged 26.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists for Kenton Ridge (16-9 overall and 11-2 in the Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Division. The 5-foot-10 center surpassed 2,000 career points as a senior. She also was the CBC Kenton and District 9 player of the year and has been selected to play in the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association North-South All-Star game.

McDavid has signed to play basketball at Wofford College in South Carolina.

Current, a 5-6 guard, averaged 21.1 points for Ben Logan, which was 16-8 overall and won the CBC Mad River Division (10-3).

D-II area honorable mention players were Urbana senior Hunter Rogan and sophomore Mikala Morris of Kenton Ridge.

Northeastern junior Hayley Suchland and West Liberty-Salem senior Lilly Yoder were the only area players to receive D-III recognition. Both were named honorable mention.

Senior Jeselle Thomas of Norwalk (24.1 points) was the D-II player of the year and the co-coaches of the year were Tippecanoe’s Andy Holderman and Ben Ackley of Miami Trace.

The D-III co-players of the year were Naz Hilmon (15.8) of Gates Mills Gilmour Academy and Baltimore Liberty Union’s Gabby Burris (24.2). The D-III coach of the year was Kevin Pickerill of Winchester Eastern.

The All-Ohio teams are based on district teams that are determined by various media panels and forwarded to the Associated Press. The girls D-I All-Ohio teams were announced on Monday and the girls D-I and Ms. Basketball will be released on Wednesday.
