Sources told ESPN.com about the potential trade, after which the Cavs would pick Duke’s Kyrie Irving and Arizona’s Derrick Williams, the website reported.
That would be a big boost in talent for Cleveland, which is still reeling from LeBron James’ departure. It would also inspire some much-needed enthusiasm the franchise lacked this season without its former superstar.
Instead of working the free-agent machine that took away so much from them, the Cavaliers would find players necessary at the top of the draft, those that inspire optimism about building for the future.
Either way, Cleveland needs a drastic move like this. Watching the Cavaliers this season was painful, and I can’t imagine what it was like for those who had invested in season tickets or merchandise.
A move like this would show those fans and supporters that you’re not just waiting for a good move to fall to you.
But then, of course, there would be pressure to make something happen with those picks. That’s a pressure I’m sure the team would prefer.
