WSU baseball tops UC for 11th straight win

OXFORD — Wright State reeled off its 11th straight win Tuesday, edging Cincinnati 3-2 in the opening game of the Joe Nuxhall Classic at McKie Field at Hayden Park.

The Bearcats had the potential tying run at second in the ninth, but Michael Schum recorded his seventh save with a strikeout to end the game. WSU pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts as starter and winner Joey Hoelzel (3-3) fanned five in five innings of work, Jack Van Horn had six in 2 2/3 innings and Schum added three.
